SERIOUS FUN: You don’t have to speak Spanish to enjoy the health fair at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana today. But you do have to like Mexican entertainment: mariachis, salsa music, dancing and a Mexican fashion show. . . . “We’re Mexican and proud of our culture,” says Teresa Maldonado-Parker, president of the museum’s sponsoring Mexican-American Arts Council. . . . The health fair’s emphasis will be on breast cancer, which has touched the lives of several of the council’s board members.

SORRY, SCOTTY: Remember last month when Cal State Fullerton’s most celebrated graduate, Kevin Costner, showed up with his 7-year-old son, Joe, at the College World Series in Omaha? Costner wanted to cheer on his alma mater--eventual winners--and close pal, Titan Coach Augie Garrido. . . . The latest Premiere magazine says the Costners had to pay a heavy price. It meant canceling the sleep-over of Joe’s best friend, Scotty--and Joe wasn’t happy about it. . . . The item says Costner told his son: “It’s really a special day for Augie, Joe--the kind that just comes once in a lifetime. He’s our friend. We should be there.”

FAMILY AFFAIR: It’s actor Irene Bedard’s voice you hear when you watch the animated heroine in “Pocahontas.” That makes her part of the Disney family. So she’ll be on hand Monday for the 40th anniversary party at Disneyland. . . . Most of the hoopla will surround Walt Disney Co. Chairman Michael Eisner burying a time capsule near Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. . . . Bedard will also be at a newer event: “The Spirit of Pocahontas” stage show.

EXTRA DUTY: If you’ve seen those dozen sculpted dolphins adorning the East Coast Highway median in Corona del Mar wearing fire helmets, it was local poet Rene Kerr’s idea. Local Chamber of Commerce President Toni Van Schultze suggested it to honor firefighters: “We kind of skated through the [1993] firestorm without any tragedies in Corona del Mar.” . . . The dolphin fire brigade is also being used to promote an open house today at the Corona del Mar fire station on Marigold Avenue.
