Share

The Splash continued to play better on the road than at home, getting a 10-6 victory Friday over Arizona at the America West Arena in Phoenix.

The Splash scored all 10 goals in the second half--five in the third quarter and five in the fourth--and ran off seven goals in a row in turning back the Sandsharks.

The victory moved the Splash (4-2) back into a first-place tie with San Diego in the Continental Indoor Soccer League’s Southern Division.

The Sandsharks (2-5) dropped into last place in the division.

Arizona led, 3-0, at halftime, before the Splash got consecutive goals from Sam George, Sean Bowers and Paul McDonnell.

After giving up a power-play goal, only the fifth of the season, the Splash started its seven-goal run. Doug Neely scored three times and had two assists. Jose Vasquez added a goal, Bowers added his second, and Dale Ervine closed out the scoring with two goals.

Ervine and Bowers also had two assists.

Goalkeeper Ruben Fernandez had 14 saves for the victory.

The Splash has won its last two road games--in Houston and now Phoenix--by 10-6 scores, and both games came on the heels of miserable performances at The Pond of Anaheim.

The Splash plays at Mexico on Sunday. The third-place Toros (5-3) beat San Diego, 12-6, in Mexico City.
