* Re “Brash World of Bogus Goods Thrives in L.A.,” July 5: It’s no surprise that a big counterfeit operation applies “high class” logos to inferior merchandise. We all encourage this crime by adorning ourselves with commercials. From our T-shirts that tell who we are and tell what saloon we patronize, to the understated but visible advertisement on our expensive sandals, we make a statement. “This is who I am; I’m cool (or smart or wealthy).”

Let’s boycott commercials on our bodies and find better ways to let others know who we are. The benefits could be even greater than putting counterfeiters out of business.
