An Oxnard man has been arrested after allegedly kidnaping his girlfriend and infant son.

Marcos Nunez Sr., 22, was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping, spousal abuse, grand theft auto, vandalism and child abduction. He is being held at Ventura County Jail.

Police said Nunez abducted his girlfriend, Olga Monso, 22, and their 1-year-old son, Marcos Jr., as Monso was leaving her home and getting into a car at 9:30 p.m. Monday. Nunez allegedly jumped into the car and forced Monso to drive to an alley off Saviers Road, where Nunez had parked his van, police said.

Nunez beat, bound and gagged Monso, used a chemical to cause her to lose consciousness and then fled with her and the child, police said.

Monso awoke an hour later as Nunez was filling his tank at the U.S.A. Gas Station at 1790 E. Pleasant Valley Road, also in Oxnard, police said. She opened the van door and fell out, screaming for help.

As gas station attendants and several customers ran to Monso’s aid, Nunez fled in the van with his child, according to police. The van sped off with the nozzle still in the gas tank, causing numerous gallons of gas to spill onto the cement.

Emergency crews cleaned up the spill before it could ignite, and Monso was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Nunez was captured at gunpoint several hours later, fleeing on foot from his aunt’s house in Oxnard, police said. The child was returned to Monso unharmed.
