Band Roams Home to Santa Barbara

Share

The Tearaways, peerless purveyor of black-leather power pop, will perform Saturday night at Calypso in their hometown of Santa Barbara.

The Tearaways have been around for seven years with various lineup changes. Staying constant are the main men and happening harmonizers, bassist Fin Seth and guitarist Greg Brallier.

The Beatles, Buddy Holly, XTC, the Searchers, Tommy Keene, the Rubinoos, Jellyfish and the Bobby Fuller Four were all bands built on tight pop hooks and harmonies. While not exactly like any of those bands, the Tearaways do fit in this musical cosmology.

The band released a CD in 1993, “See the Sound,” but has of late been taking its show on the road to Los Angeles and plays infrequently in Santa Barbara.

The Calypso, at 514 State St., has a nice outdoor patio, where patrons have the option to slurp under the Tupidanthus or go inside and dance. Information: 966-1388.
