Share

Celebrating “How the West Was Fun,” the theme of this year’s San Fernando Valley Fair, boot scooters and tush pushers are invited to strut their stuff at a country-Western dance Thursday night to kick off the 49th annual event.

Sponsored by Glendale nightclub In Cahoots, the two-hour event will be the main attraction of the fair’s opening day and will feature the final rounds of a dance competition begun six weeks ago at the club.

According to Tina Ludwig, In Cahoots’ general manager, fair-goers will also be able to dance alongside professional troupes and the contest winners.

“We wanted to put on a little bit of a show of what we do here,” she said.

During the competition, 12 finalists will compete in two rounds of East Coast swing dancing for a three-day, two-night stay at the Debbie Reynolds Hotel in Las Vegas, she said. Also on hand will be the Renegade Dancers, a professional troupe that will perform several line dance demonstrations.

Ludwig explained that fair-goers will have plenty of opportunities to kick up their heels in a variety of dances, including the West Coast swing, the two-step, the electric slide, the black velvet and the tush push.

“It’s going to be for people of all kinds of abilities,” said fair publicist Chris Chesney.

The fair runs Thursday through Sunday at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank. Please see the accompanying schedule for more information.
