SIMI VALLEY : Council May Probe Rocketdyne Blasts

Share

After being investigated by the FBI, the Environmental Protection Agency, NASA and CAL/OSHA, Rocketdyne may soon have another government agency on its case: the Simi Valley City Council.

The Rockwell International Corp. unit is based in the Santa Susana Mountains outside the Simi Valley city limits. But City Councilman Paul Miller said the city should try to find out “what’s really going on” at the laboratory where two workers were killed in an explosion last year, prompting the government investigations.

“Every time they shoot off their rockets, my dog barks,” Miller said at Monday’s City Council meeting. “They are close enough so that they affect us.”

City officials said there was once a working group of Rocketdyne and Simi Valley representatives that met regularly to discuss issues of common concern. They said the group has not met in some time but might be revitalized.
