Hawaii Prison Official to Inspect Medical Facilities in County Jail
The director of medical services for Hawaii’s prison system will make a two-day inspection next week of medical facilities in the Los Angeles County Jail, according to an agreement reached between the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the American Civil Liberties Union.
Paul Hoffman, a counsel to the ACLU, said the Aug. 3-4 visit by Dr. Kim Thorburn will be followed by a report of any deficiencies she may find.
The inspection is pursuant to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU in 1977 that resulted in the organization being given certain monitoring rights.
