Wieder’s New Post Not a Good Fit
* Re: “Harriett Wieder Appointed to Federal Advisory Agency” (July 20): Harriett Wieder will now be able to do on a national level what she did on a county level--nothing!
President Clinton’s appointment of Wieder to a federal agency that recommends ways to make government more efficient and less costly is almost comical. The President apparently doesn’t read the Los Angeles Times regarding our present crisis in Orange County and who was at the helm when it happened.

* I thought President Clinton had eliminated all of his “Arkansas squirrel” advisers, but now we have Harriett Wieder on a committee to make government more efficient and less costly.
Her statement that she is not responsible for the Orange County bankruptcy because “to be accused of being irresponsible, you would have to know about something and not do something about it” indicates her inability to reason.
I thought her responsibility was to “know about something.” Now she can make government more efficient by not learning anything.
