What: Public hearing on higher dumping fees for landscapers, contractors and others who use small cars and trucks to haul trash to the county’s three landfills. The current rate of $5 for cars and $10 for trucks would be increased to $20 for each vehicle.

City Council meeting

What: The council will consider changing the rules for commercial filming in the city. The proposal, modeled after one developed by the California Film Commission, would simplify filmmakers’ work in Anaheim.

Fountain Valley

City Council meeting

What: The council will consider final adoption of an ordinance that would set criteria for water well drilling permits for other cities to pump water from Fountain Valley’s underground basin. Newport Beach has proposed drilling wells on two sites.

What: The council will consider requests for more conversion of commercial signs mounted on poles to more visually appealing signs at ground level.

Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach Village Entrance Task Force

What: The task force will consider the pros and cons of building a parking structure on one of the most visible plots of land in the city, at Laguna Canyon Road and Forest Avenue. Development of the Village Entrance--so named because it is easily seen by people entering downtown from Laguna Canyon--is one of the city’s top priorities.

Newport Beach

Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission meeting

What: The panel will consider lifting a 20-year limit on the times of days that hard-board surfers may use beaches. Such boards are now banned from noon to 4 p.m., June 15 to Sept. 10. The limit was imposed to protect swimmers from errant surfboards.
