Monsanto Settles Superfund Suit: International Technology Corp. said it will receive $41.1 million from Monsanto Co. in an out-of-court settlement of a dispute related to a Superfund cleanup. The suit had been pending in a Houston federal court. In May, Torrance-based International Technology said it would receive a judgment of about $66 million, which included certain fees and interest. Scarlett Foster, a spokeswoman for St. Louis-based Monsanto, said the company decided to settle rather than begin an appeals process. International Technology, an environmental services company, contracted with Monsanto in 1988 to clean up a disposal site in LaMarque, Tex. But it later walked off the job and filed suit, alleging that the nature and scope of the site’s problems had been misrepresented.
