OXNARD : Teachers Oppose Outside Evaluation

Share

Two months after the Oxnard School District began searching for a firm to evaluate the district, a teachers association said it opposes the project.

The Oxnard Educators Assn., which includes about 450 teachers, said an assessment would be a waste of money for the district, which serves about 13,000 students.

The association suggested that instead of hiring an outside firm to do the evaluation, the board should conduct study sessions with parents, residents, teachers, administrators and support staff.

Trustee Arthur Joe Lopez proposed in May that the board hire an outside firm to evaluate the district’s curriculum and administration, including personnel and the superintendent’s offices.

Although the board has received presentations from two companies that specialize in such evaluations, it has not yet scheduled a date to vote on the issue.

Lopez, who assumed office in December, said he suggested the evaluation because both the board and the superintendent’s office need a better understanding of the operation of the district.
