Disabled: Beachfront Cafe Parking Is Open to Employees and All Beach Visitors Alike

It is interesting that Shawn Casey O’Brien finds the annoyance of a chained parking space at a beachfront cafe worthy of litigation (Westside, July 30). While Mr. O’Brien is disabled, it should be noted that beach parking at area businesses is restricted to ALL persons, not just the disabled. Why could not Mr. O’Brien use a pay lot, just like everyone else? These lots have reserved--often empty--handicap parking. As I see it, NO ONE has easy access to beachfront businesses except the proprietors. This is as it should be with severely limited parking: local residents and proprietors get first access, the rest of us deal with what is left over.

Besides, while he lost his court case, didn’t Mr. O’Brien already find justice? Was not the chain removed from the space? Does not Mr. O’Brien now have easy access to Muscle Beach Cafe? Isn’t this what he wanted? Or, is it now that he feels he deserves tons of money for all the extreme trauma he experienced driving by the parking space? As I see it, Mr. O’Brien is the problem, wasting court time and taxpayer dollars pushing frivolous lawsuits. The jury was correct to deny Mr. O’Brien’s claim. JENNIFER SALTZMAN Culver City
