Man Sentenced in Slaying of Councilman’s Daughter

A 20-year-old man convicted in the 1994 burglary-murder of an El Segundo city councilman’s daughter was sentenced Thursday to consecutive prison terms that add up to life behind bars without parole.

Marcus Terrel Brewington pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder and other felonies in the killing of Tairee Lynne West, 25, and the attempted murder of her 12-year-old adopted daughter.

“He did a horrible thing,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Steven Levine. “Whatever he gets is not good enough.”

Brewington is one of three convicted of burglarizing West’s Imperial Avenue apartment around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 9, then slashing and strangling the woman. West’s 6-month-old daughter was gagged and left on a living room couch, and the sleeping 12-year-old’s throat was slashed.

Linette O’Neal Blocker, 19, was convicted of first-degree murder and other felonies in the attack, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Erica Dawn Olson, 21, also was found guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree burglary, but those convictions were thrown out after it was discovered that the judge presiding over her trial made an error in instructing the jury, Levine said.

Her conviction for the attempted murder of the 12-year-old will stand, Levine said, but she will be retried on the murder and burglary charges.

A fourth defendant, Robert Brendon Foster, 19, still faces trial on murder and other charges that could bring a possible death sentence if he is convicted.

West was the daughter of Councilman Alan West.
