State Cancels Order for Boiling Water

Share

A boil-water order in five beachfront communities north of Ventura was canceled Friday afternoon.

The state Department of Health Services tested the water supply and found it free of contamination and safe for all domestic uses, including drinking.

The water supply for 626 residences and businesses in La Conchita, Mussel Shoals, Seacliff, Faria and Solimar Beach was turned off early Monday when a landslide in a nearby canyon knocked out a 14-inch steel water pipeline. Mud and water closed down the Ventura Freeway for several hours Monday.

Water was restored for area residents Wednesday evening, but the Casitas Municipal Water District had to chlorinate and disinfect the water before the state could lift the boil-water mandate.

Water district officials recommend that residents flush faucets and hot-water systems until clean water appears. Hot-water tanks do not need to be drained and refilled, but cartridges in replaceable cartridge purification systems should be replaced.
