An ex-convict was sentenced to life behind bars Friday for mailing two bombs to a prosecutor in a plot to win clemency for a jailed friend.

Hinton McClure (Hoss) Waters, a 50-year-old prison preacher who served time for murder in Florida in the 1980s, was convicted in June on charges that included conspiracy and mailing explosive devices.

Waters had sought to win freedom for convicted killer Robert Sands. The plan was for Sands to tip authorities to the bomb plot against Knox County District Atty. Randy Nichols.
