Thank you for the excellent article headlined “Thumbprints Help Reduce Real Estate Fraud” (Real Estate, July 16). We were pleased to provide information on the dramatic effectiveness of Los Angeles County’s pilot anti-fraud program showing the devastating impact on fraud a thumbprint requirement can have.
Representing California’s 145,000 notaries, the National Notary Assn. wholeheartedly endorses the mentioned statewide legislation (AB 1828) requiring signers of real property deeds to leave thumbprints in the notary’s journal. A journal print requirement would help California Notaries more effectively carry out their important role of protecting the public against document fraud.
