Cost Care Names New Chairman, New Chief Executive

Robert Vohs has been named chief executive of Newport Beach-based Cost Care, a subsidiary of John Hancock Mutual Insurance Co. Vohs, 52, a former health care consultant, has been president and chief operating officer since joining Cost Care last October.

George Miller, a Boston-based senior executive at Hancock, has been named chairman of the company, which provides reviews of health care services for John Hancock customers as well as other insurers and companies.

Founder Lawrence Goelman, who had been chairman and chief executive, left the company last month. Cost Care, which was started by Goelman 14 years ago, was purchased by Hancock in 1990.

* H.K. Desai has been named president and chief technical officer of QLogic Corp. Desai also will serve as interim chief executive while the Costa Mesa company continues its search to fill the post that has been vacant since Mel Gable resigned two months ago.

Desai worked for the company from 1990 until earlier this year, when he left to become vice president of host products at Western Digital Corp. He was an engineering section manager at Unisys Corp. from 1980 to 1990. QLogic produces high-performance technology for transferring data between computers and attached peripherals.

* Xsirius Inc. said it named James H. Gerberman president, succeeding Bernhardt Denmark, who will remain as chairman and chief executive. The Camarillo-based maker of lower-power miniature electronics and power supplies said Gerberman, 42, joins the company from Thermo Electron Corp.’s TN Technologies Inc. unit. Before joining TN Technologies, Gerberman held positions at Baker Hughes Inc.’s Tremetrics unit, and at Texas Instruments Inc.
