Valleywide : Marine Layer Tempers Weather to a Degree

Share

Temperatures around the San Fernando Valley hovered in the 90s on Sunday, while the Santa Clarita Valley hit triple digits, the National Weather Service reported.

A high pressure system that caused temperatures in the Valley to skyrocket past 100 degrees a week ago has broken up and moved on, said Eugene Van Cor, a spokesman for the National Weather Service. That has allowed a cooling marine layer to move into the coastal valleys overnight.

The marine layer burns off in the morning, but has been able to moderate temperatures. Noontime temperatures Sunday were 92 in Burbank, 96 in Van Nuys and 95 in Tarzana.

In the Santa Clarita Valley, Newhall recorded 100 degrees and Saugus 101 degrees at noon.

“It’s not as hot as it could be,” Van Cor said.

High temperatures today are expected to range from the 90s to up to 102.
