Deputies Capture 1 of 5 Prison Escapees

San Bernardino sheriff’s deputies Sunday captured one of five prisoners who escaped from the San Bernardino County Central Detention Center earlier in the weekend.

The five prisoners--three of whom are charged with murder--escaped from the detention center Saturday morning by removing a loose window in the visitors area that separates inmates from the public. Once the prisoners were on the visitors side, they simply walked out of the facility, Sgt. Steve Morgan said.

At 1 a.m. Sunday, deputies caught Alfred Quiroz, 18, in a residential neighborhood of San Bernardino. Authorities released no details of his capture.

Quiroz was being held on a murder charge.

About 40 investigators continued to comb Southern California for four men still at large: Ernest Graves, 26, charged with murder; Anthony Caldwell, 31, also charged with murder; Michael Weaver, 33, charged with armed robbery, and Joseph Castro, 32, in custody on drug possession charges.
