Update : Follow-up on the news : LAGUNA BEACH : City to Explore Sites for Farmers’ Market

The city has joined the search for a new site for the open-air Farmers’ Market, which must move from the school district parking lot by Nov. 18.

The market, which has been hugely popular, opened in June at 550 Blumont St. over the objections of some neighbors. City officials say it cannot remain there because it is in a residential area.

“If we don’t have a place, we’ll close down, but I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen,” said Jennifer Griffiths, who manages the market for the Orange County Farm Bureau.

Community Development Director Kyle Butterwick said Monday that he will meet today with market proponents to explore options.

Griffiths said at least 1,000 people have been flocking to the produce stands each Saturday. “The problem is just finding a large enough space with adjacent parking,” she said.
