CYPRESS : City Urges Recycling of Used Motor Oil

Share

To prevent pollution and encourage conservation, the city is asking residents to be diligent about recycling petroleum products. Officials said the city is especially concerned about illegal disposal of used motor oil by car owners who change their own oil.

“In the past, some people used to pour the oil on the ground or put the oil in with the trash,” said Jamie Herbon, the city’s recycling coordinator. “These methods of disposal are illegal and cause problems for our water systems and ecological systems.”

He said Cypress and other cities in the county have designated sites where people can dispose of used motor oil. He said there are 12 sites in Cypress, La Palma, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach that accept waste petroleum.
