VENTURA : Homeless Center Plan to Be Discussed
The Commission on Human Concerns, an advocacy group for the homeless, is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss setting up a day center and boarding house for homeless people in central Ventura.
Board member Les Goldberg bought the house at 946 Thompson Blvd. last month, with plans to lease it to the commission.
Once approved by the commission, the shelter must also receive a permit from the City Council before it can open its doors, said Lee Riggins, the commission’s executive director.
Commission programs include employment for the homeless, gas and electric bill assistance, legal services, as well as food and rental assistance.
The meeting begins at noon at the organization’s administrative offices at 621 Richmond Ave., Oxnard.
