FTC Adopts Time Limit for Strictures in Agency Orders: The Federal Trade Commission said it will place a 20-year time limit on business restrictions in antitrust and consumer protection cases, freeing companies from the prospect of perpetual federal scrutiny. The new approach goes a step further than a policy change announced last year that allowed the targets of FTC orders and consent agreements to petition for removal of business restrictions that are more 20 years old, but did not automatically remove them. Because of the change, provisions of future orders and negotiated agreements will automatically end after 20 years if companies have abided by the restrictions during that period.
