Man Guilty of Shooting at Agent

A jury Wednesday found a Tustin man guilty of shooting at an FBI agent who had gone to his home.

Alexander Thomas Pirro, 45, who had been released on bail, was taken back into custody after the verdict was read Wednesday, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Susan R. Ficcadenti.

FBI Special Agent John E. Carroll went to Pirro’s Cowan Heights home Oct. 7 to question him as part of an investigation. Pirro refused to cooperate, and after Carroll walked to his car, Pirro fired a shot at him from his front door. Pirro later surrendered to authorities.

His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 30 before U.S. District Judge Linda H. McLaughlin. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for assaulting a federal officer, with a mandatory consecutive sentence of five years in prison for using a firearm during the assault.
