SANTA ANA : New Main Street Ramp Eases I-5 Commuting

Share

About 15,000 commuters got some traffic relief this week with the opening of a freeway on-ramp that connects with Main Street, one of Orange County’s busiest thoroughfares.

The Main Street on-ramp for travel northbound on the Santa Ana Freeway reopened Tuesday after being closed for almost 2 1/2 years.

Motorists traveling either direction on Main Street have access to the 1,900-foot on-ramp.

The on-ramp and improvements to the Main Street Bridge, which reopened in June after two years of construction, were part of a $38-million project, Caltrans officials said.

About 38,000 vehicles a day use the bridge.

Both reopenings are part of Santa Ana Freeway improvements that will widen the freeway to 12 lanes from six by 1997.
