Redwood Ramble

We were pleased to see California’s secret, the redwood forests next to Crescent City in Del Norte County, described in the June 26 Hiking column (“Mr. Smith Goes to the Redwoods”). But John McKinney forgot to tell your readers about the most beautiful three-mile coastal drive in California, from the lighthouse near the harbor to Point St. George, mostly on Pebble Beach Drive, just a few blocks off cluttered Route 101. That is why natives describe Crescent City as the place “where the redwoods meet the sea.”
