Maxine S. Hill; Lifelong County Resident

Lifelong Ventura County resident Maxine Swoape Hill died Friday at her Ventura home. She was 90.

Born Sept. 12, 1904, in Ventura, she married Newton W. Hill in 1928. Together, they ran Hill’s Pharmacy in Ventura, with Mrs. Hill working as an accountant for the business.

She also worked for 15 years as a typist for the Ventura County recorder’s office. She belonged to the Poinsettia Club in Ventura.

She is survived by a sister, Sybil Swoape Clapp of Ojai; nieces Geraldine Lightfoot of Dewey, Ariz.; Lowelle Reish of San Diego, Gwen McCallister of Ventura and Wanda Gale of Oxnard, and a nephew, Louis Swoape of Dewey.

Other survivors include a great-nephew, James Johnson of Oxnard; great-nieces Judy Lockwood of Santa Ana, Rene Brady of San Diego and Christina Harrison of San Diego, and a great-great-niece, Anna Brady of San Diego.

Private family services will be held Wednesday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. Arrangements are being handled by Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home of Ventura.
