Some of the nation’s largest corporations will take part in a business opportunity program to be staged next month to guide Ventura County firms hoping to sell their goods and services to private and governmental customers.

The Ventura County Business Opportunity Fair, scheduled Sept. 20 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, is expected to draw as many as 100 exhibitors, including Amgen Inc., 3M Corp., Walt Disney Co., Southern California Edison Co., Southern California Gas Co. and GTE California Inc.

Also on hand to assist business people will be representatives of the Defense Department, the Internal Revenue Service, the state Department of Transportation, the Metropolitan Transit Authority and other public agencies.

“This will be the best possible place to network with purchasing agents and to market your business,” said Jorge Corralejo, co-chairman of the event. “You will seldom find so many of the right kinds of purchasing people in one place at one time.”

Business people seeking defense contracts will be able to meet with officials of local military bases and the Defense Department’s contract management unit, Corralejo said. Financing advice will be available from officials of several banks and the Small Business Administration, he added.

Workshops will be held on doing business with federal and local government agencies, and on such topics as exporting and using computers to obtain valuable information.
