SIMI VALLEY : Mayor Calms Fears Over Annexation

Share

Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton reassured several concerned homeowners at a meeting Monday night that the city had no plans to take over their neighborhoods against their will.

Stratton told the homeowners that the council was not yet even considering annexing the neighborhoods in seven separate swathes of territory bordering the city’s north side.

The decision about whether the areas are annexed will come from residents and the Ventura County Local Agency Formation Commission, Stratton said.

The commission is expected to schedule a public meeting soon on the possible annexation. If there is strong opposition, the 500 or more residents of the areas will be allowed to vote on the proposal, he said.

“Only then do we get to decide if we even want them,” he said.

At Monday’s meeting, the council merely considered what sort of density the neighborhoods would be zoned for if annexation occurred, Stratton said.
