Update / Follow-up on the news : LAGUNA BEACH : City Rejects Claims About Storm Damage
The city has rejected more than $5 million in claims submitted by residents and businesses for damage caused by storms in January.
The storms struck the city Jan. 6 and 10, flooding the downtown area, damaging homes and businesses, and battering Main Beach Park.
City Manager Kenneth C. Frank said earlier this week that there were “no possible grounds” for the claims, which the City Council unanimously denied.
The city contends that the mud flow was related to grading for the San Joaquin Hills toll road and has filed a $675,000 claim against the Transportation Corridor Agencies, builders of the road.
The transportation agency disputes the claim, saying its erosion control measures in Laguna Canyon actually prevented storm damage from being worse than it was.
