More on San Francisco

In her July 30 letter, Elizabeth Lyman was offended by “travel” writer Kristine McKenna’s remarks and lack of research on San Francisco (“SOMA, So Much Art, So Little Time,” June 25). I wonder why San Franciscans are so sensitive about how their town is presented.

The Weekend Escape column is the main reason I open the Travel section. I enjoy the column because the writers’ attitudes and opinions are expressed in their stories. Ms. Lyman doesn’t seem to realize that the Escape writers are not “travel” writers, but other Times contributors, telling about their own experiences. I look forward to reading their views in a different setting and getting to know the people behind the bylines. The Travel section has published at least three Escapes to San Francisco in recent months. I think a variety of views has been expressed.
