A 10-year-old boy was wounded when he was caught in the cross-fire of rival gangs competing over a graffiti-covered wall east of Downtown Los Angeles, police said Monday.

The boy was wounded in the buttocks about 6 p.m. Sunday at South Dacotah Street and Olympic Boulevard, near Costello Youth Center, said Sgt. Marty Weston of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Shooting broke out when gang members started “crossing out” monikers left there by rivals, Weston said. No arrests were immediately made.
