Marriage License Fee Hike Tentatively OKd
Ventura County supervisors tentatively approved Tuesday a rate hike on marriage licenses and a host of other fees charged by the county clerk’s office.
County Clerk Richard Dean initially suggested the fee increases during budget hearings last month. He said the rate hikes would help bring in an additional $160,000 annually for his office.
Under the new fee schedule, marriage licenses would increase from $40 to $57, while the registering of business names with the county would go from $11 to $21. Also the replacement or duplication of a marriage license would jump from $5 to $12.
Dean told the board that the rate increases are in line with those of most other counties that have recently adjusted their fees.
The board is expected to give final approval to the fee hikes at its meeting next week.
