Citing Poor Health, Orange City Manager to Resign
City Manager David F. Dixon announced Tuesday night that he will resign in October.
Dixon, 57, did not attend the City Council meeting but sent a prepared statement that his wife, Betsy Dixon, read for him.
Dixon wrote that he is suffering from a recurrence of cancer and will take a medical leave beginning Sept. 3.
“I have very much enjoyed my time in Orange and am sorry to leave City Hall,” Dixon wrote. “My family and I ask for your continued support and prayers in this difficult time.”
Dixon fell ill shortly after taking the city manager position in February, 1994. His illness worsened this year, and city officials said they had expected him to take a medical leave.
Mayor Joanne Coontz said that Fire Chief David L. Rudat will be acting city manager until the council can appoint someone to complete Dixon’s term in office.
“The council is truly saddened by the news,” Coontz said. “His tenure has been marked by fiscal and organizational challenges.”
