SIMI VALLEY : School Board Gives Promotions to 3

The Simi Valley Unified School District Board has promoted three administrators and approved raises for them.

Susan Parks, assistant superintendent of educational services, becomes the district’s second-in-command, taking over as the deputy superintendent of the district.

She will serve as the administrator in charge when the superintendent is not available, update enrollment projections and facility usage and coordinate the restructuring of the secondary education system.

Her salary will be increased from $81,600 to $85,000.

Lowell Schultze, former provisional chief business official, will serve as acting assistant superintendent of business services until the position is filled permanently in November or December. His annual salary will increase from $75,300 to $79,000.

And Kathy Robinson will receive a 10% salary increase, to $54,000, for her new duties as the acting director of information services.

Although the board unanimously approved the new assignments Tuesday, some members worried that it would send the wrong message.

“I don’t know how we can sit here and say administrators work really hard, and they do, and not acknowledge that teachers and classified workers work their buns off, too,” trustee Debbie Sandland told her fellow board members.

But Supt. Mary Beth Wolford said the district needed to compensate the three administrators for their increased workloads.
