Irvine’s Seal Leaves UCLA for Cal State Fullerton

Scott Seal, a backup outfielder at UCLA last season as a sophomore, is transferring to Cal State Fullerton and will play for the 1995 College World Series champions next season, associate head coach George Horton said Wednesday.

Seal, who played at Irvine High, played very little for UCLA in 1995, appearing in seven games and starting in two. He was slowed much of the season because of a knee injury.

“At this point he will be a junior from an eligibility standpoint, but since he was injured so much of last season, he’s going to petition the NCAA for another year of eligibility,” Horton said. “We were interested in him in high school, but he decided to go to UCLA.”

Susie Parra, a former All-American pitcher at Arizona, has been hired as an assistant softball coach at Cal State Fullerton, Coach Judi Garman said.

Parra was a member of three NCAA championships. She served as a student assistant coach this past season at Arizona.

Parra and Michelle Gromacki, a returning Titan assistant coach, will be competing in tryouts for the U.S. Olympic softball team next week in Oklahoma City.
