SIMI VALLEY : School Expansion to Get Further Study

Share

After four hours of public testimony and discussion on a private elementary school’s expansion plans, the Simi Valley Planning Commission voted to send the proposal back to the city’s planning staff for further study.

Commissioners said too many questions remain on the Phoenix Ranch School project for the panel to make a final decision during its Wednesday hearing. The project would add three modular buildings and a pool to the school on Oak Road and allow enrollment to increase from 169 to 287 students.

The commissioners asked staff members to examine ways to shield neighboring properties from noise at the school, possibly by rearranging the project’s design.

About 100 people attended Wednesday’s hearing. Parents of Phoenix students told commissioners that the school provided a valuable service and deserved to grow.

But neighbors complained that by adding 118 students, the school would raise neighborhood noise levels and clog private Oak Road with traffic.
