VENTURA : Council to Decide on Restrooms Pact

Share

Back from a four-week summer recess, the Ventura City Council will decide Monday whether to award a $195,111 contract to an Oxnard construction company for rebuilding the public restrooms at Plaza Park.

The project is intended to spruce up the park, situated on a square block surrounded by Thompson Boulevard, Chestnut, Fir and Santa Clara streets in downtown Ventura.

Plans call for demolishing the park’s existing restrooms, building new facilities and removing an earth mound that covers an old concrete bunker, which would also be removed.

On Aug. 1, the city received six bids for the construction project, which also includes landscaping, irrigation and electrical modifications. Contractors were allowed to bid separately on building the restrooms and demolishing the bunker.

Hansons and Son Construction Inc. of Oxnard offered the lowest bid of $195,111 for construction of the restroom facilities. The company also offered the lowest bid for combining the two portions of the project: $217,658.

City engineers previously estimated the job would cost $243,000.
