A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in last week’s botched robbery of a Brinks truck in Sylmar.
One robber was killed and a Brinks guard was injured during a shootout that erupted when two men tried to rob the truck last Thursday outside a Bank of America at Foothill Boulevard and Astoria Street, authorities said. Police have not released the name of the dead robber, whose cohort fled the scene and remains at large.
Bank of America and Brinks executives are jointly offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the fugitive suspect, Bank of America spokeswoman Shannon Jones said.
Last week’s robbery was the second time in about two months that Brinks guards were targeted by bandits. In June two men shot and killed Brinks guard Herman Cook, 51, during a robbery outside a Bank of America in Winnetka.
A $125,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the convictions of the gunmen in that shooting, Jones said. Anyone with information about either shooting should call the We Tip hot line at (800) 78-CRIME.
