Hubert F. Gordon, a former FBI special agent and 15-year resident of Ventura County, died Sunday at his Westlake Village home. He was 91.

Gordon was born Feb. 1, 1904, in Norwalk, Conn. He attended Harvard, where he studied history, and worked for a time in accounting, said his daughter, Bea Reay of Newbury Park.

After marrying his wife Virginia in 1943, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Reay said.

“Most of what he did was confidential,” she said. “He basically tried to make banking institutions safe from certain types of crime, and he worked on extortion and kidnaping-type cases.”

He retired in the 1970s and went on to work briefly for Gibraltar Savings and then the U. S. Air Force, helping to improve security operations.

Gordon and his wife moved to Westlake Village in 1980 after their San Fernando Valley home was damaged by floods. The move was meant to be temporary.

“They just fell in love with the lake and the peace and quiet out here,” Reay said.

Always entertaining a fresh interest in economics, history and politics, Gordon was a wealth of information for his family, she said.

“He was the most intelligent man I ever knew,” his daughter said.

In later years, Gordon helped prepare tax returns and do accounting for senior citizens, keeping himself busy, Reay said.

“I will miss him,” she said. “He always made everything seem OK.”

In addition to his wife and daughter, Gordon is survived by son Thomas Gordon of Vallejo, daughter Julie Monson of Canoga Park and four grandchildren.
