Officer Chasing Speeding Driver Is Hurt in Crash

A police officer trying to stop a speeding driver was injured late Monday in a near head-on collision as he made a left turn.

The officer, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries to his right elbow and right hand. He was treated at Pacifica Hospital and released, Sgt. Craig Bryant said.

The accident occurred at 10:40 p.m. when the driver of the pursued car stopped at a light at Bushard Street and Atlanta Avenue. The driver turned left when the light turned green, and when the officer followed, he collided with a Jeep pickup.

The pickup driver was not injured and has not been cited. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

The speeding driver got away.
