Film: Baltimore Oriole shortstop Cal Ripken Jr., who is on the verge of breaking Lou Gehrig’s record forconsecutive games played, has been hired as a consultant on an upcoming film about a fan who stalks his favorite baseball star. The film, to be released by Sony Corp.’s TriStar Pictures, is a project of Manadalay Entertainment, the new entertainment firm formed by former Sony Pictures Chairman Peter Guber. The movie, to be directed by Tony Scott, will star Robert De Niro as the fan and Wesley Snipes as the ballplayer, with “Forest Gump” producer Wendy Finerman as the producer. Ripken, who is on track to break Gehrig’s record on Wednesday, will offer advice on the pressures players face.
