A 25-year-old Oxnard man was killed early Thursday morning after a pickup truck struck his sedan as he was pulling out of his residence on the 300 block of Hueneme Road.
Mauricio Sepulveda, a farm laborer, was pronounced dead at 6:27 a.m. as authorities were transporting him to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, officials said.
According to police, Sepulveda was exiting his driveway on Hueneme Road at about 5:55 a.m. when his car pulled out in front of Jack Morisi, a 31-year-old motorist from Laguna Beach. According to police reports, Morisi, who was driving a pickup, tried to avoid a collision by slamming on his brakes and steering to the left.
Police said Morisi broadsided Sepulveda’s auto on the driver’s side of the car. According to the Ventura County medical examiner’s office, Sepulveda died of blunt chest injuries about half an hour after the collision. Passengers Rodolfo Sepulveda, 20, and Juan Sepulveda, 31, both of Oxnard, were treated for pains in their backs and necks and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. A spokeswoman said Morisi also was discharged after being treated for cuts on his left hand.
