Show of Support for Doris Allen Recall
* An item appeared in the Aug. 27 “Politics ‘95” column suggesting I have distanced myself from the effort to recall Speaker Doris Allen. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I was unable to attend the recall precinct walk on Saturday, Aug. 26, due to a scheduling conflict, which forced me to be in Sacramento. Had I been in Orange County, I certainly would have attended the precinct walk to encourage the volunteers who are working hard to place this recall on the ballot.
My election as Assembly Republican leader does not in any way diminish my support for the recall of Doris Allen. My position in favor of the recall was well known before the leadership vote, and I would have no reason to change my position after my election as Assembly Republican leader.
