* As labor and management work out details of the selection process for the New West Symphony musicians, it is natural that some posturing goes forward. Recent articles about “disharmony” as it relates to the symphony does not do justice to the outstanding programs that are under development by the New West Symphony Board and staff.

We are planning some marvelous concerts to be presented by the two youth orchestras the New West Symphony is sponsoring. We have two outstanding youth conductors, with scores of students and young musicians participating. The youth orchestra will present fine music and will also serve as a training ground for future professional musicians.

We are also implementing successful subscriptions and concert sponsor campaigns. We have already achieved substantial success with our founder’s campaign.

After our first combined board meeting, there emerged a commitment to a countywide effort to offer an outstanding music program for the greater Ventura County area. I am proud of the progress we have made and hope that the media highlights the great strides we are making for the arts in Ventura County.
