With Labor Day nearly here, two-thirds of respondents to a poll say they believe that labor unions are still necessary, says a CNN/Time magazine survey released Saturday.

But a majority of those surveyed said union leaders are more interested in their own personal concerns than in helping their members.

The poll showed that 68% of those surveyed agreed that unions are still necessary, while 24% said they are unnecessary.

The poll is based on interviews with 800 adults. It was conducted Aug. 23-24 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
