A man held a 28-year-old woman at knifepoint for more than an hour at a Lancaster McDonald’s before releasing her unharmed, sheriff’s deputies said Sunday.

The incident began after Dae Kim, 39, of Lancaster walked into the restaurant at 810 W. Ave. I at about 12:45 p.m. and sat down next to Kim Miller of Hermosa Beach and her mother while they were eating, deputies said.

Kim allegedly pulled out a knife, held it to Miller’s neck and began to push her around the restaurant, deputies said.

After a hostage negotiator and deputies arrived and cleared the restaurant at about 2 p.m., they were able to calm Kim, who was apparently saddened by family problems when he entered the restaurant, deputies reported.

Deputy Michael Holland of the sheriff’s Antelope Valley station said Kim had been drinking and was emotionally unstable during the incident, often crying.

Kim was held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $20,000.
