SANTA PAULA : Cyclist Killed in Collision With Car
A Santa Paula man has apparently died of head injuries after being struck by a car while riding his bike, authorities said Sunday.
Esteban Fernandez, 20, was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. Saturday at Ventura County Medical Center, according to the county coroner’s office.
The collision occurred Friday evening at Main and 12th streets in Santa Paula. When police arrived, they found Fernandez unconscious in the crosswalk.
He had been struck by a car driven by a 22-year-old Oxnard woman. Santa Paula police said they would not identity the woman because their investigation of the accident was continuing.
Tests showed that the woman, who had minor injuries, had no alcohol in her system, police said. Results of a blood test on Fernandez are pending.
Police said witnesses of the collision should contact Officer Tom Mendez at 525-4474.
