Woman Dies After Being Hit by Car
A 69-year-old Valencia woman on an evening walk was struck and killed Sunday evening by a teen-age driver who took his eyes off the road to adjust his stereo, authorities said.
Darlene Worthing was struck about 6:30 p.m. as she walked east in the bicycle lane along Wiley Canyon Road just east of Via Macarena, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Watner.
“She was out for a walk, for all we know,” he said.
Authorities said that the 17-year-old driver, who was not identified, was traveling east when he veered into the bike lane, striking Worthing.
Worthing was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver was not immediately cited and the investigation is continuing, Watner said.
